LEED Gold-certified convention center. With construction scheduled to
begin in May 2016 with anticipated completion in February 2018, the
$154 million project will deliver an additional 200,000 square feet of

completed the second and final phase of the $70 million expansion project commenced in October 2014. Unveiled last August, the first phase
introduced 350,000 square feet of new exhibit space, while the second
phase added the 70,000-square-foot carpeted Oceanside Ballroom,
divisible by five. The customer-focused facility now offers 2 million-plus
total square feet and over 900,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit
space, the world’s fifth largest in both categories. Other features
include state-of-the-art Wi-Fi; underground parking; a 20,000-square-
foot lobby; and covering 28 acres, the world’s largest convention center
➤ Meanwhile, Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino ( www.mandalaybay.com)
expects to finish the approximately $100 million remodel of its 3,000-
plus main tower guest rooms and suites this spring.
➤ Caesars Palace ( www.caesars.com/caesars-palace) began welcoming
guests to its new Julius Tower last month. Created for the property’s
golden anniversary, this $75 million transformation of the original
Roman Tower from 1966 features 587 design-savvy, modern rooms and
suites. Full completion of the project is anticipated for this spring.
➤ Opening this April, the new $375 million T-Mobile Arena ( www.arena
lasvegas.com) is a dynamic new 20,000-seat multipurpose venue for
year-round entertainment and events.
➤ Following groundbreaking in May 2015, work is proceeding on the $4
billion Resorts World Las Vegas ( www.rwlasvegas.com) project, with an
estimated completion by mid-2018.
➤ Offering more than 200,000 square feet of meeting space, Westgate
Las Vegas Resort & Casino ( www.westgateresorts.com/las-vegas-resort-and-casino) is finalizing a sweeping $100 million renovation that
includes 1,200 remodeled Signature Rooms, 300 new timeshare villas,
the all-new International Bar, and a fully renovated pool deck.
➤ Downtown’s The D Las Vegas Casino Hotel ( www.thed.com) unveiled
an 11,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art meeting and convention space,
including new breakout rooms and new outdoor patio space at its
6,000-square-foot Detroit Ballroom.
➤ Also downtown, Plaza Hotel & Casino ( www.plazahotelcasino.com)
commenced an extensive renovation of its 70,000-square-foot pool
deck last month. The new multimillion-dollar rooftop pool experience
will include cabanas, daybeds, dining areas, bars and greenery.
➤ Yet another downtown fixture, California Hotel and Casino (www.
thecal.com) is finishing a multimillion-dollar redesign and renovation
of virtually all public areas, including valet and porte cochere, guest
registration and casino floor. Slated for completion in early 2016, the
project will be followed by a complete redesign and upgrade of nearly
500 rooms and suites, plus additional F&B concepts.
➤ Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide is assuming partial management of SLS Las Vegas Hotel & Casino ( www.slslasvegas.com), via the
transformation of the current 289-room SLS Lux tower into The Strip’s
first W Hotel. Slated to open in the third quarter of 2016, the upgrade
will include a dedicated entry and reception area, and WET, an exclusive
outdoor pool and bar. The other two towers, comprising 1,324 rooms,
may also be converted to the W brand.
➤ The boutique Lucky Dragon Hotel & Casino ( www.lveirc.com/project/
lucky-dragon) is scheduled for completion in August 2016. Located on
Sahara Avenue, just west of Las Vegas Boulevard, the new Asian-themed resort will reportedly offer 206 rooms, a spa and authentic
Asian cultural, culinary and gaming experiences.
➤ In November 2015, it was announced that the failed $2.9 billion
Fontainebleau Las Vegas was for sale, asking price an estimated $650
million. The unfinished 68-story, 3,875-room mega-resort was mothballed in 2009.
