New Renovations and Expansions
Located in downtown Winston-Salem, the
100,000-square-foot Benton Convention
Center is undergoing a multimillion dollar
renovation that includes significant struc-
tural, design and technological upgrades to
the interior and exterior of the building.
Key design elements will create more
open, flexible meeting space and incorporate architectural nods to Winston-Salem’s
historic arts, tobacco and textile roots. The
plans also include expanding the front facade to provide more practical, prefunction
space. More windows and skylights will be
added to give the venue a contemporary,
open and inviting aesthetic.
The center will remain operational
throughout all phases of the project, which
is expected to be finalized May 2017.
Opening Spring 2016, Kimpton Hotels will
open its first North Carolina property in the
R.J. Reynolds Building, one of the city’s most
iconic structures. This Art Deco gem will boast
174 guest rooms, more than 6,300 square feet
of meeting space and a restaurant, all just
steps from the Benton Convention Center.
Originally opened in 1929, the R.J. Reynolds Building was designed by architects
Shreve & Lamb, who used this design to
later create the Empire State Building.
