As a mass of attendees made their way onto the trade show floor on the first day of IMEX America, I made a beeline to the Be Well
Lounge at the other end of the hallway for a peaceful pit stop before the hectic pace began. After
a short meditation with Lee Papa, along with a
little healing sound therapy with “Rosie,” her pink
crystal singing bowl, I was off to the races, rested,
rejuvenated and ready to take on the world.
Papa, a mindfulness speaker and trainer, has a
kind of super power when it comes to her craft. She
has spearheaded the IMEX Be Well Lounge for four
years, and she’s slowly been attracting a steady
following of repeaters as well as newcomers. They
come to her sanctuary of serenity for what they are
realizing is a dose of much-needed wellness during
IMEX—or any show for that matter.
The Be Well Lounge was as popular as ever at
IMEX 2018, with Papa offering a full schedule of
guided meditations each day, as well as a place to
sit, relax and just “be” in the newly designed area.
“We were very pleased to be able to partner
with Imprint Group and DMC Network this year,
and I wanted to build the decor around the theme
of the sessions, which was the road map to living
mindfully—understanding self-love, self-care and
self-mastery,” she said. “Imprint Group took the
theme and ran with it, creating these fantastic
vignettes using those terms.
The design included comfortable couches,
greenery, candles and trickling waterfalls.
Papa’s biggest reward throughout her journey
of speaking and training on the importance of
mindfulness for planners and attendees?
“Time and again, it’s when an attendee comes
back a year after they first meditated in one of my
sessions and says it changed their life,” she said.”
Be Well Lounge
tween 15,000 and 35,000 included experiences such as the High Roller at the LINQ Promenade and a Relaxation Day at the Qua Spa & Garden of the Gods Pool at Caesars Palace. Daily scan-in QR code prizes were also awarded. The top steppers were entered into a drawing
for a VIP Las Vegas getaway at a Caesars Entertainment property.
Another way attendees stayed active was through one of the show’s most successful programs to date: the IMEX Run. The 5k run along the Las Vegas Strip takes place Wednesday
morning at the show every year. Attendees—700 registered runners for the 2018 event—
don’t seem to mind rising before dawn to take part in the excitement.
“The IMEX Run has always sold out since we launched it, and a great story is that one of
our consultants who had never run before participated one year and has now become a ded-
icated runner,” said Dale Hudson, director of knowledge and events at IMEX. “By implement-
ing these types of programs into events, we actually have the ability to change people’s lives.”
The IMEX Run was developed and is produced annually by Events by tlc. The company
recently merged with Case Imagine to become VOQIN’ .
“We approached IMEX five years ago about creating a 5k run to balance the rest of the
cocktails and parties, introducing a healthier way of connecting people—sweatworking,”
said Miguel Assis, partner and CSO at VOQIN’ . “People are getting more conscious of
well-being, and it’s a way of getting energized for the second half of the show.”
This year, team sponsors included Hilton, LVCVA, Simpleview, Switzerland Convention &
Incentive Bureau and GES.
